Contractors for the City of Richmond will begin final import of clean soil for construction of the Meade Street Bypass project beginning around Wednesday September 5,2012. It is expected that 70 truck loads per day will be brought to the site and that the work will be completed by September 15. The City expects the final paving to be completed and the road to be open around October 15, 2012.
The Meade Street Bypass Road Project is a temporary roadway in an east-west direction that extends from the intersection of Regatta Boulevard and Erlandson Street to Meade Street. A portion of the bypass is being placed on RFS property through an access agreement between the City of Richmond and UC Berkeley. The purpose of the bypass is to reroute vehicular traffic to the south of the existing railroad tracks to avoid current excessive delays along Marina Bay Parkway resulting from stopped trains along the tracks. Once completed the bypass road is expected to be in place for approximately 10 years until the Marina Bay Parkway grade separation project is finished and operational.
